To know Christ, to make Him known, and to exhibit
His love through worship, education and service.”
~ First Presbyterian Church Mission Statement
The Recreation Ministry and Oak Hill Day Camp carry out this mission by guiding children through recreational activities and positive peer modeling. Our staff combines mature Christian leadership with seeing everything a child does as if we were that child again ourselves.
The purpose of the Recreation Ministry is to minister not just to the participant or camper, but to the whole family. Our efforts are designed to build on foundations laid in the home, the teachings of school, and on the worship of each participant/camper’s home congregation. We believe that positive peer modeling and equipping children to apply basic Christian values to everyday life are the simplest ways to achieve this purpose, with children from families who worship regularly and those who do not. We hope to see them return better equipped to apply Christian truth because they have experienced a vital living relationship with their fellow peers, their counselors, their coaches, the natural created order, and God.
Recreation Ministry and Oak Hill Day Camp Core Values
Faith
I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.”
~ Philemon 1:6- NIV
We believe that faith is the foundation of all we do in the Recreation Ministry. It is by example and open discussion that we build that foundation within the hearts of the community we serve.
Friendship
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!”
~ Ecclesiastes 4:9-11
Close relationships are essential to every living being. The camaraderie and trust that exists between the staff and participants is founded in our faith and made more powerful because of the experiences we share.
Tradition
A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children…”
~ Proverbs 13:22
We not only hold to the traditions of our faith, but to the traditions of our families before us. Many generations of families have shared the same recreational and camp experiences over the years and we look forward to instilling these traditions in the generations to come.
Service
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
~ Matthew 5:16
It is our belief that joy comes from serving others. The Recreation Ministry and Oak Hill Day Camp seeks to identify the needs of the community and creative ways to meet those needs.
Respect
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
~ Philippians 2:3-4
It is because of our faith that we are committed to preserving friendship, honoring tradition, and actively serving. It is our Respect for God, each other, and the world he has created that drives our daily actions.
